Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Statement

Introduction

Our mission, as a compassionate modern lady led funeral directors, is to provide a fresh approach to funerals with a unique and inspiring set of standards, choice and genuine openness.  Our goal is simple yet powerful: not to have to follow rigid funeral traditions from the Victorian era, to make you fell inspired and personally supported through thoughtful flexible planning, where everything is taken care of with the funeral executed smoothly, where our doors remain open to support our bereaved community, exuding confidence that you made the right choice entrusting us, while allowing you to pay tribute and come to terms with your loss.

At Amanda-Louise’s, we believe in looking after you, the person who’s died and the planet in the best way possible. Other than that, our fundamental belief is that we are all unique in life, so our funerals can be too.

Our commitment to provide high standards of social and environmental transparency, accountability and impact.

This statement sets out Amanda-Louise Funeral Director Services’ actions to understand all potential slavery risks related to its business and to put in place steps that are aimed at ensuring that there is no slavery or human trafficking in its operations and within its supply chains.

This modern slavery statement is published in accordance with the UK Modern Slavery Act (2015) and relates to actions and activities during our financial year April 2024 to March 2025.

Statement

Our funeral home is at 3 Blenheim Road, Minehead, TA24 5PY. The owner and lead funeral director with overall accountability and day to day responsibility is Amanda-Louise. At our funeral home, we have a funeral parlour lounge area, meeting area, kitchen, toilet and clinical mortuary facilities.

The staff who work for us directly are made up of a small team of both men and women, and undergo interviews.

Our Responsibility

We do not feel we are involved in a high risk industry of modern slavery or human trafficking, our strategic thinking is to never assume. Whilst this policy details our ongoing commitment to modern slavery and human trafficking at a senior level, we embed day to day processes that focus on higher risk areas, such as:

Our Code of Ethics:these define our expectations of ourselves to always do what’s right, to conduct ourselves with integrity, and to hold ourselves and others accountable to high standards of ethical conduct.

Our Risks: We assess and manage risks within all our business operations to ensure everyone is safe.

Our Equality & Diversity Policy: embeds our non-bias practices in hiring as well as screening employees.

Our Whistleblowing Policy: our complaints policy provides a framework that lets anyone raise concerns about us, whether that’s about the services supplied by us, risk of wrong doing, or criminal activity (such as modern slavery) which affects others, or impacts our reputation. Our employees have the option to raise concerns anonymously internally by way of whistleblowing if they are not satisfied with all that we do, or if they feel there is a safeguarding issue that needs to be raised for example.

Our Supplier Code of Conduct: We are committed to ensuring that our suppliers adhere to the highest standards of ethical and business practices too. Suppliers confirm that they provide safe working conditions where necessary, treat workers with dignity and respect, and act ethically and within the law in their use of labour. Serious violations of our suppliers code of conduct will lead to the termination of the business relationship.

Our Supply Chain

We aim to use suppliers based in the UK, or for those who use fairtrade suppliers from overseas.

Our Focus for the next 12 months

To continue to develop our policies to ensure we meet high standards and best practice, and to examine that those policies are underpinned by our day to day work.

This policy will be reviewed annually.
