With the right information imparted in a sensitive and age appropriate way, it can have a positive impact on children to talk about death and dying so they understand  about funerals. It will empower them and their families to have choice of attending, and importantly to help towards their bereavement journey.

In the school setting its an ideal and safe place to provide grief education, and Wild Wellies who currently provide forest school provision in the local school contacted Amanda-Louise Funeral Director to see if she would be interested in working together with the school. Given our passion to break the cycle to demystify death and funerals, and our background in working with bereaved children with art therapy techniques, we were very happy to be part of this initiative. Consultation with parents will take place to ensure there are strong communication links and any concerns discussed and reassured.

We hope this will provide the school with support mechanisms for bereaved children, as well as the pupils having spent time learning about death and grief in the safe place within the classroom, and providing resources of support when a student suffers a loss.

The day of memory aims to equip young people with the necessary skills and information to better prepare them for their emotions and feelings that go hand in hand with a death. Its seen that this will lead to a positive way to empower our younger generation.
