Bereavement Support Group | Minehead and Local Communities
We know bereavement is never easy, but there are ways to cope. Here at Amanda-Louise Funeral Directors, our doors remain open to our families after the funeral, and to our local bereaved community and residents too. Thats why we offer a variety of support, as we know what helps one person wont be right for the next. For some, connecting with others just feels right being around people who understand. So we open our doors once a month (at different days of the week and times, to be accessible for everyone). Our next bereavement group:
Date and Time - Thursday 17th October 2024 at 2-4pm, Wednesday 13th November 2024 10am-12noon and Monday 16th December 2024 6-8pm
Location - 3 Blenheim Road, Minehead, TA24 5PY
This free support group is open to everyone, not just our clients, and tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. Please email office@amandalouisefuneralservices.co.uk or ring us on 01643 800335 with any questions. No RSVP required, just come along; a warm friendly space awaits you.
Why Is Grief Support So Important?
Whether you have recently said your farewell to a loved one and learning to live with that loss, or after a few years from your bereavement; if you didnt have the opportunity to explore your feelings from a death, or feeling isolated and want to make some friends who have gone through loss too, our free bereavement group is a welcoming space for you to talk about your memories, or simply sit and listen to others, explore their feelings or sadness without being judged.
Our Bereavement Support Group Minehead
Having a women's understanding and trained in bereavement counselling, we recognise that many people find it difficult to talk to their family or friends about their loss, they think that if they do it will upset or make those family or friends sad or uncomfortable. So here at Amanda-Louise's, we have a comfortable space for anyone to come every month or simply drop in every now and again. Our aim is to host these on different days and at different times to be accessible. Its not a therapy group, here at Amanda-Louise's we facilitate and be that safe space where you can be with people who just get it.
Why talking about grief and getting involved with bereavement support groups are so vital?
Here's our top seven reasons:-
- Talking about a bereavement enables you to come to terms with your loss, and understand your range of emotions
- Enables you to be around people who understand what you have gone through, so you dont feel so isolated
- Encourages you to start talking about how you are feeling, to process all the emotions
- Hearing how other people cope with their loss, may give you ideas to consider
- Understand that children grieve differently from adults
- Telling other people about the person you have lost can help you keep their memory alive
- Opportunity to meet and make new friends
And even if no-one can fully understand about your loss, at least you can share your story and feelings whilst in our safe space where others can listen
Grief Support Group Not For You?
We recognise everyone wants to deal with their grief differently. Some have to jump back into work and everyday routines, while grief stays to remind us how much we miss that person. So here are our top tips for those who dont or cant attend bereavement network groups, to be able to help if you are grieving in isolation:-
Keep connecting with your family or friends
Draw comfort from your faith and beliefs
Join an online support group
Be ready for certain times of year ie christmas, birthdays, certain music that means something to you etc (you may find its not the first of these events, it could be the following year where grief impacts you)
Remember to listen to your body and mental health
Find a new hobby or interest
Plan a holiday
Volunteer so you can meet new people
Dont put to much pressure on yourself on timeframes when you will feel "yourself"
