Flowers bring warmth and comfort at a funeral
Flowers are generally placed on top of the coffin, and within the hearse, church or crematorium altar space. Although not an essential expenditure at a funeral, funeral flowers do help people express their sympathies, the love they feel for that person, to acknowledge the person's character or hobby and do bring a warmth of colour and softness to dress the coffin. It also helps people with their grieving journey by acknowledging their death, reflecting of that person and is a classic symbol of expressing sorrow and respect.
Which funeral flowers or arrangements to choose?
Nowadays there is alot of choice, from coffin sprays, wreaths, hand tied sheafs, letters or bespoke shaped arrangements to basket of flowers, posey pads, pillows, cushions to individual stem flowers for example.
What colour and floral funeral flowers are best?
Think about which colour the deceased liked, or which flower was their favourite. Flowers At Number 3 in Minehead will be able to help you choose from a large variety of options that suit all budgets.
What to write on your flower message card?
The flowers or floral arrangements will provide alot of symbolism of what you want to say, so you can keep your message on the card quite simple. For example "with treasured memories", "rest in peace", "in loving memory", "gone but not forgotten", "love you forever". As funeral directors, we will take the cards off the flowers following the funeral, and give them to the next of kin as a keepsake, so dont forget to add your name on the card.
What happens to flowers at a cremation funeral?
As women funeral directors we know that thinking about all the little details makes such a difference, and flower planning is one of those details. We also appreciate that flowers are an investment at the funeral. So we suggest at a cremation funeral either:
1.Leave the flowers with the coffin at crematorium (to go with the coffin to be cremated)
2.Leave an individual flower with the coffin (to go with the coffin to be cremated), then we can remove all the floral tributes and take them out to the crematorium's garden of rest, so that mourners can look at them before they go to their funeral reception venue. The crematorium will dispose of them after a couple of days.
OR, 3. After we have taken them out to the garden of rest area, we take them to your funeral reception venue so you can continue to appreciate them. You could decant flowers from arrangements to give them out to all attendees as a funeral memorial keepsake, or take them home and pull out any flowers and place them into a vase to achieve maximum value and treasured memories. You could consider pressing some of the flowers into a keepsake or even drying them (hang flowers upside down into a dark area to dry out) or even use any of the petals by drying them and keeping them for a family wedding and use as confetti.

Funeral flowers need to arrive on time
Of course on the day of a funeral, timing is critical to ensure everything goes to plan, and that includes that the flowers that have been carefully curated are delivered on time, so that the funeral cortege can set off promptly, either from the funeral home, the deceased's home or elsewhere. Thats why, we always ask that florists (other than our inhouse florists) deliver their funeral flowers to us the day before the funeral, whereupon we keep them safe and in a cool room. (we have had to do this, because we have received flowers from a florist late on the day of a funeral, so as a respected and well organised funeral directors, we have taken that decision to ensure we are not delayed)
