What is a Funeral Celebrant?
You do not need to have a religious minister to conduct a funeral. With the increasing demand to have personalised ceremonies, Celebrants are becoming more popular than ever. The difference between a Funeral Humanist and a Funeral Independent Celebrant is religion. A Humanist is bound not to include any religion in any form from content to readings to hymns, whereas an Independent Celebrant will include should the client want to, religion either fully or partially.

How can a Funeral Celebrant make it personal to the individual?
A Funeral Celebrant can conduct any memorial, internment or scattering of ashes, cremation, or burial. All these services will be conducted in a manner that reflects the personality of the departed one, and is not bound by restrictions. They will listen to the family, and fully understand how they want to pay their respects whether thats in an intimate quiet way, or more of a celebration of life.
How will a Funeral Celebrant help when saying goodbye?
A Funeral Celebrant will meet with the family and spend as much time as the client needs. During this meeting, they will learn about the deceased so they can write a ceremony reflecting their life from writing the eulogy, incorporate readings, blessings and music enabling the mourners time to reflect on that person. Often the Celebrant will provide the family with a keepsake copy of their ceremony. A good Celebrant will honour tradition and devise new ones in tribute of the departed.
Ultimately the Celebrant will support the family coming to terms with their loss in an unhurried caring way.
How do I know which Celebrant to use?
As you would expect its important to choose the right Celebrant for you. After all, they are representing you on the last passage in one’s life. Celebrants will differ due to their personalities, experience, and their styles. A good tip is to look at their websites, look who they are affiliated and trained by, and any testimonials they have and invest in time talking to the Celebrant when you are searching for them. Ask them questions, they wont mind! After all, it's important for them to ensure that they are a fit for you, and you to them.
Many Funeral Directors work with a range of Celebrants. If a client wants a particular Celebrant, then the family just need to inform their Funeral Director of their details.

Why have a religious minister conducting a funeral service?
Many families have their own religious minister to turn to if they have faith and attend their religious church. They will provide comfort, guidance and conduct a service fitting and religious based. More often a vicar will officiate a traditional burial providing the full committal rites of passage and reciting prayers at the graveside.
